An excellent example of a genuine mid to late 60's complete Vietnam War era U.S. M1 helmet. The M1 helmet was made by Ingersoll who made helmets for the U.S. government during the Vietnam War between 1965 to 1968, it has a heat stamp number of: I - 2681, the chinstrap has anchor markings to the metalwork. Helmet has had a field overpaint at some point, originating as an Military Police helmet being before re-issued as an infantry helmet, you can just about make out the 'MP' to the front and the lines to the side and back. The genuine U.S. P64 liner is in excellent shape and was made by Marmac/Firestone (maker marked M20), ink DSA (Defense Supply Agency) contract markings to the suspension webbing and was made in May 1967. The genuine U.S. sweatband has vivid ink DSA contract markings and is also dated 1967, the nape strap is also DSA contract marked 4649 dating it from late 1964 to early 1965. The genuine U.S. Mitchell cover retains its vivid original colours and is contract marked 8133 dating it to early 1965, around the outside of the cover is a genuine U.S. Vietnam War era elastic helmet band with ink markings to the front. A very nice complete mid to late sixties example M1 helmet.
