A genuine Vietnam War era 1972 USS Midway Zippo lighter. The USS Midway (CVB/CVA/CV-41) is an aircraft carrier, formerly of the United States Navy, the lead ship of her class. Commissioned eight days after the end of World War II, Midway was the largest aircraft carrier in the world until 1955.The USS Midway (CV-41), a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier, played a significant role during the Vietnam War (1965–1973). Deployed multiple times to the Gulf of Tonkin, it served as a floating airbase, launching thousands of combat sorties. Its aircraft, including F-4 Phantoms and A-4 Skyhawks, conducted bombing missions, reconnaissance, and air support for ground operations. Notably, in 1972, Midway's air wing participated in Operation Linebacker, striking North Vietnamese targets to disrupt supply lines. The carrier also supported the evacuation of Saigon in 1975 during Operation Frequent Wind, airlifting thousands of refugees to safety.
The front of the Zippo lighter has the acid etched design of the 'USS Midway CV-41' and retains some of the original enamel. It features the manufacturers machine stamped base that shows the correct period Zippo logo and date markings along with the trademark logo, on the base of the lighter either side of the Zippo logo are vertical lines one either side of the Zippo logo, this indicates the Zippo lighter was made in 1972. The lighter mechanism also features machine stamped Zippo markings and fits nicely in the case and appears to be in working order.
