A genuine vintage Korean War era Vulcan lighter made in the 1950's, shows the crest for the USS John Hood DD655, engraved above the crest is the text: DES DIV 202 & USS HOHN HOOD. Has its original lighter mechanism that fits snugly and appears to be in working order, lid has some play with wear to the chrome plating.
The USS John Hood (DD-655), a Fletcher-class destroyer, was launched in 1943 and commissioned in 1944. During World War II, it served in the North Pacific, harassing Japanese outposts in the Kuril Islands, conducting nine sorties, and sinking enemy ships, including a convoy in August 1945, earning one battle star. Post-war, it supported occupation duties in Japan until 1945. Decommissioned in 1946, it was re-commissioned in 1951, patrolling off Korea (1953–1954), serving in the Mediterranean (1955–1957), and aiding during the Suez Crisis. It later focused on training and antisubmarine exercises until decommissioned in 1964 and scrapped in 1976.
