A genuine U.S. SPH-4 Flight Helmet. The SPH-4 helmet was first introduced into service in 1969 and saw active use during the Vietnam War as used by the Air Cavalry helicopter pilots and aircrew, it continued to be used by the U.S. throughout the 80's and 90's, it replaced the AFH-1 helmet offering better crash protection. The internal webbing system is complete with quick release adjustable chin strap, and the wiring appears complete for the headphones and microphone with the intercom connection socket at the end, headphone foam has perished. Microphone appears to have been damaged at some point and is currently secured in place with black tape, the microphone M-87/AIC can easily be replaced and can still be purchased from the U.S. This helmet retains the original Gentex manufactures labels. Would have been made late 70's early 80's. Size Regular.
